NEWSLETTER CHELMSFORD TOWN TWINNING ASSOCIATION
Annonay - Backnang - Chelmsford CTTA NEWSLETTER - JULY 2011 After two excellent weekends in Annonay and Backnang to celebrate our twinning anniversaries, we must thank some of the many people involved - the Essex Police Band for their superb performances (and the two cyclists from the band who pedalled most of the way to Backnang), the Keene Quilters from Stock who sent contributions for the Patchwork Exhibition in Annonay, and the children of three primary schools in Chelmsford who sent artwork to the Strassenfest in Backnang - Baddow Hall, Lawford Mead and Highwoods. John Salmon spent many a long hour getting the art exhibition organised and on its way, with help from Jackie and Alan Arnot who made sure the pictures arrived in Backnang. These are just a few of the many who helped to make each weekend such a memorable occasion. It's back to summer in Chelmsford now, starting with the Bring and Buy Sale hosted by Liz, 2.30 pm on Saturday 23rd July at 328 Broomfield Road. There will be stands for books, cakes, plants, clothes and bric-a-brac, entrance will be £3 to include cake and tea, coffee or soft drinks. All we need is a sunny afternoon so that we can enjoy time in Liz's garden as well as a chance to raise funds. We are expecting a visit from Annonay's Twinning Committee in October and this will coincide with Caprice Wind Orchestra's visitors from the Annonay Orchestra. If you can help with hosting for the committee members Liz would be very happy to hear from you and your help will be much appreciated. On the same weekend there will be a chance to see the paintings and drawings sent to Backnang by our young primary school artists and these will be on display in High Chelmer - see later newsletters for more details.
Helpers are also wanted for both the Annonay Gourmandises Food Festival and the Advent Market in Backnang this year. Hospitality from both towns was first-class when we stayed in June and you can be sure of a warm welcome by your hosts at the winter events. If enough people are able to go we can prepare hot food on the stand in Annonay; in Backnang the focus is on sales with all the English seasonal goodies that are so popular with Backnangers. If you can help, please contact Gloria (Annonay) or Liz (Backnang). For further information on any of our events please contact Janet, Liz or Gloria: Janet Smith, tel 01245 441624, email janetsd@talktalk.net Liz Sutton, Hon Secretary, tel 01245 440534, email towntwinning@freenetname.co.uk Gloria Nichols, Chairman, tel 01245 266437, email gloriabn@live.co.uk CTTA NEWSLETTER - JUNE 2011 Members of the CTTA who visited Annonay for the Balloon Festival had a memorable weekend in the Ardèche, with massed flights of hot air balloons, concerts, a Patchwork Exhibition and a brilliant celebration of our 10 years of twinning with Annonay. More details of the trip will be posted to the CTTA website. Click for article and photographs. We now look forward to the Strassenfest weekend in Backnang, this time celebrating 20 years of twinning. Highlights of the trip will be concerts given by the Essex Police Band and an Art Competition for children from Chelmsford Primary Schools. Two members of the Police Band will be cycling to Backnang and we hope to be there in time to give them a rousing reception on arrival. The Art Competition will feature entries from Baddow Hall, Lawford Mead and Highwood Schools and there will be an exhibition of the winning entries in Backnang, followed by a similar show in High Chelmer later in the year. If you have any unwanted items for Liz's Bring and Buy Sale in July please could you let her have them as soon as possible - contact details below. More information about this and other future events will be in the next Newsletter. After the Stra βenfest celebrations we will be looking ahead to our autumn trips and we are particularly asking for helpers at the Gourmandises Food Festival in November. This is a very popular showcase for food from the Ard èche and we like to bring our own special contributions from Essex - please call Liz or Gloria if you would like to join us and help on the Chelmsford stall.Diary Dates 2011: Backnang Strassenfest 24th-27th June Liz's Bring and Buy Sale 23rd July Gloria's Garden Party 17th September CTTA AGM 14th October Caprice Concert 29th October Annonay Gourmandises 11-13 November Backnang Advent Market 26th-27th November CTTA NEWSLETTER - APRIL 2011 Chelmsford Silver Band has been involved in an exchange with Backnang in the past and we welcome the news that the band hopes to renew its interest in twinning in the near future. The Band will be holding the Mayor of Chelmsford's Charity Concert on Saturday 21st May, 7.30pm at Broomfield Methodist Church, Main Road, Broomfield and doors will be open at 7pm. Tickets will cost £5 and refreshments will be available in the interval by donation to the Essex Air Ambulance which the evening is supporting. Further information can be obtained by calling 01245 493876 and if you receive this newsletter by email a leaflet is attached. It would be good to see members of twinning there to support both the Silver Band and the Mayor's Charity.
The programmes for the anniversary visits to Annonay and Backnang in June are now available and we look forward to a great celebration of twinning to follow on from our own very successful weekend in June 2010 when we hosted many visitors from both twin towns. Members of Keene Quilters, a group that meets weekly in Stock, have been very helpful in providing items to be displayed at the Annonay Patchwork Exhibition to be held in Delmas Castle. An Art Competition for children from Chelmsford Primary Schools will be held in conjunction with the visit to the Strassenfest in Backnang and the winning entries from the competition will be exhibited at the Town Hall in Backnang, followed by a later event to take place in Chelmsford. We hope that pictures of the patchwork displayed in Annonay and the art exhibited in Backnang will be made available with later issues of this newsletter. The Chelmsford Singers will be visiting Backnang for a concert in June and the Chelmsford German Circle is hoping to visit friends from the Backnang Volkshochschule in October. We are also inviting visitors from Annonay to Chelmsford, 28th-30th October - if you can offer to be a host, please let Liz know.
